With over thirty  varieties of fish known to inhabit the waters off the shores of the Barony of Erris, the sea-angler is rewarded with the best all-round sea angling waters in Ireland "Think of a fish and it can probably be caught off Belmullet"

Blacksod Bay offers good fishing for tope, monkfish, ray, spurdog, bullhuss, conger, pollack, mackerel, scad and occasional common skate while, further out to sea, towards Achill Head, halibut, blue shark and porbeagle shark have been recorded. Broadhaven Bay has top class fishing for ray, turbot, tope, whiting, gurnard and occasional monkfish. The Achill Island area offers excellent deep sea fishing and the Irish records for both porbeagle shark (365 lbs) and blue shark (256 lbs) are held there. Also available around the Achill area are pollack, mackerel, cod, flounder, turbot, dogfish, coalfish, ray and dabs
